Why the UK
This is where the industry began. British Council accreditation is the most widely recognised quality standard in language teaching, and virtually every school in the UK is inspected against it.
What really sets the UK apart, though, is continuity: there’s a complete system running from language course to foundation year to degree. If your goal isn’t just English but university, starting in the UK is far smoother than switching countries later.
Cities
London — the widest choice of schools and the highest cost. International, endlessly social. If the budget allows, nothing matches the experience.
Brighton, Bournemouth — coastal towns, one to two hours from London. Noticeably cheaper, student-heavy, safe. Our most frequent recommendation for first-time travellers.
Oxford, Cambridge — academic atmosphere, small and calm. Motivating if university is the goal.
Manchester — big-city energy at a cost well below London.
Visa routes
- Courses up to 6 months: Standard Visitor visa
- English courses of 6–11 months: Short-term study visa
- Longer academic programmes: Student visa
Requirements vary by nationality — some passports need no visa for short courses. We check your specific route before you commit.
Work rights
You cannot work on a Visitor or Short-term study visa. If working while studying matters to you, look at Malta or Ireland instead.
